The awards, which are presented by LAMA (Local Authority Members Association) and IPB Insurance, recognise and celebrate community and all 31 councils working together. They provide an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the work done within our Irish communities, to reward our unsung heroes, and recognise the phenomenal contribution they’ve made to local life.
The Cavan projects, which have been shortlisted from over 300 entries, are:
- Best Trail Waterway In Ireland – The Killykeen Way
- Best Environmental/Ecological Project – Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark Business Sustainability Project
- Best Irish Festival – Cavan Arts Festival, nominated by Cavan County Council Tourism Development
- Best Business Working with the Community – Callaghan Electrical, nominated by Local Enterprise Office, Cavan
- Best Micro Start Up – Laochra Academy, nominated by Local Enterprise Office, Cavan
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr TP O’Reilly, congratulated the five shortlisted projects, all of whom are initiatives of Cavan County Council or those supported by the council, “I want to wish all of those shortlisted the best of luck in Saturday’s LAMA All Ireland Community and Council Awards. To have reached this stage is already a great achievement, given the competitiveness of the nomination process, so everyone involved in these worthy projects should take great pride in having reached this stage of the awards. I look forward to representing Cavan at the awards, and hope to see some of our local nominees emerge successful on the night”.
