Contracts signed for €2.5m Cootehill housing development

Cavan County Council has signed contracts with local firm Sandar Construction for the delivery of 13 new social housing units at Chapel Lane, Munnilly, Cootehill.

The project will see the delivery of one terrace block comprising nine one-bedroom units, one two-bedroom unit, and three, two-storey, three-bedroom units, which will boast a BER rating of A3, making them extremely efficient to run for their future occupants and environmentally-friendly for the entire community.

Other local firms contributing to the project, which is 100% funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, include architects Wynne Gormley Gilsenan, and Alan Traynor Consulting Engineers Ltd. Additional services are being provided by Renaissance Engineering Ltd and Walsh Associates Quantity Surveying Services.

Speaking at the contract signing, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr TP O’Reilly said, “I am delighted to see this exciting housing project reach this advanced stage. I am particularly pleased to see Sandar Construction, a Cavan Town-based firm, emerge successful from the main construction tender process, meaning Cavan County Council will not only be providing high quality homes to 13 families, but also be investing in local jobs in County Cavan, providing a welcome boost to the local economy”.

Acting Director of Service for Director of Services, Housing, Libraries and Cultural Services, Lynda McGavigan said “I want to pay tribute to our own Housing Construction team under Senior Engineer John Wilson, and particularly Johnny Condell and Brendan McGourty who have project managed this development so capably, with support from staff and management across the organisation, and always with the full backing of our elected members. I look forward to further advancing this exciting project, part of Cavan County Council’s ambitious delivery programme under the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ plan, in the coming months”.

The scheme is expected to be completed in Quarter 1, 2026. Construction cost of the 13 units is €2.5m ex-VAT.
