Solid Fuel Enforcement

As part of Cavan County Council’s solid fuel enforcement programme, Solid Fuel inspections were carried out in late 2023 in accordance with Air Pollution (Marketing, Sale, Distribution and Burning of Specified fuels) Regulations 2012.

A total of 35 fuel samples were collected from retailers in County Cavan and analysed for sulphur content levels.

During 2023 multi-agency checkpoints were undertaken by staff enforcing the solid fuel regulations in conjunction with An Garda Siochána.

Investigation into online solid fuel sales is also ongoing by Cavan County Council’s solid fuel enforcement staff.

Solid Fuel Merchants Ireland were provided with Cavan County Council’s contact details so that they can pass on any intelligence they may have in relation to non-compliant or illegal fuels being available on the market within County Cavan.

Remember, when heating your home to choose solid fuel products that comply with the regulations as using smoky coal can impact negatively on your health and is illegal.

Air pollution is a health issue that affects us all, especially the most vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, children, and those with heart and lung conditions, who are at a disproportionately high risk from air pollution.

Using smoky coal can impact negatively on your health and is illegal. Smokeless coal produces less harmful emissions.
