Green Schools success for Cavan

Cavan County Council would like to congratulate the 12 Cavan schools who were awarded their Green Flags on the 21st of May, as part of the An Taisce Green Schools programme.

A special word of congratulations goes to Corlea NS which not only received its Green Flag for the water theme but was also named regional winner for Water School of the Year in the north west and the national award for Green School All-Ireland Primary Water School of the year 2024. This is a brilliant achievement and a testament to the hard work from all involved.

The Cavan schools that received their green flag this year are:

  • Litter and Waste: St. Mogue's NS Bawnboy and St Bricin's College Belturbet
  • Water: Gaelscoil Bhreifne, Corlea NS, and Coláiste Dun an Ri
  • Travel: Loreto College Cavan and Farnham NS Cavan
  • Biodiversity: St. Brigid's NS Killygarry and St. Clare’s NS Ballyjamesduff
  • Global Citizenship Energy: Curravagh NS, Glangevlin
  • Global Citizenship Marine: Belturbet Boys' NS and St. Joseph's NS Kingscourt

The Green Schools programme aims to encourage, involve, and educate school going children in the important part they can play in making our world a little greener. The student led programme shows the students how they can play their part mitigating the causes of climate change.

There are ten themes in the programme, covering areas from litter and waste to biodiversity. The number of schools in county Cavan actively participating in the programme is low, and we would encourage more schools to get involved.
