Ensure you are registered to vote

REGISTER OF ELECTORS: It is now your responsibility to ensure that you are registered to vote.

New Registration

The referendums on the proposals contained in the Thirty-ninth Amendment of the Constitution (The Family) Bill 2023 and the Fortieth Amendment of the Constitution (Care) Bill 2023 will be held on 8 March 2024.   If you are eligible to vote and not on the register of electors you must apply on or before Tuesday 20 February 2024.    

To be eligible to vote in a Referendum:

  • (a) You must be 18 years of age on or before Friday, 08 March 2024.
  • (b) You must be living full time at the address at which you wish to be registered.
  • (c) You must have Irish citizenship.

How to apply

If you applied to have your address within Cavan changed after Wednesday10 January 2024 the change of address will not come into effect until after Friday 08 March 2024. Therefore, you must vote from your old address for the forthcoming Referendums.

Postal Vote

Won’t be able to make it to the Polling Station on Polling Day?

If you have an illness or disability or due to work/service or study reasons you are prevented from attending a polling station on polling day, you may be entitled to vote by post.

Applications for entry onto the postal voters list must be received on or before the closing date Monday, 12 February 2024
