Part VIII Planning Notice - Assan Bridge
Assan Bridge Rehabilitation and Junction Re-alignment, Assan, Ballyjamesduff County Cavan
Part XI of Planning and Development Act 2000 as amended.
Part 8 of Planning and Development Regulations 2001 as amended.
Notice is hereby given that Cavan County Council under the above legislation proposes to provide enhanced facilities for vehicular traffic by constructing a new bridge structure to the northeast side of the existing bridge and junction realignment at Assan Bridge, Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan.
The proposed development, which is the subject of this Part 8 procedure, will include the following:
- Provision of a new bridge structure (7.5m Clear Span and 8.5m overall width),
- Realignment of the L3545 (North of the existing Bridge) to connect directly to the L3005,
- Realignment of the river for 30m upstream of the bridge and installation of rock armour to protect the upstream and downstream banks,
- Rehabilitation works to the existing northeast face of the bridge and approaches,
An Appropriate Assessment Screening Report and an Architectural Heritage Impact Assessment Report of the proposed development have been completed and are available for inspection with this application.
Drawings and particulars of the proposed development will be available for inspectionor purchase at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy, during normal office hours 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), at:
- Cavan County Council, Planning Section, The Johnston Library, Farnham Street, Cavan, Co. Cavan.
- Cavan County Council, the Municipal District Office, Cootehill, Co. Cavan.

Documents and drawings
During the period from Thursday, 15 December 2022 to Friday, 20 January 2023, both dates inclusive.
Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the proposed development would be situated, may be made in writing or emailed to assan@cavancoco.ie, to Cavan County Council, addressed to the undersigned, on or before 4pm on Friday, 3 February 2023.
In accordance with the requirements of the European Union (Planning and Development) (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2018 (S.I. No. 296 of 2018), the Planning Authority has concluded that the proposed development does not require an Environmental Assessment and will not be likely to have a significant effect on the environment. Any person may, within four weeks from the date of this notice, apply to An Bord Pleanála for a screening determination as to whether the development would be likely to have significant effect on the environment.
