Cavan County Library Service and Cavan County Council’s Historian-in-Residence, Dr Brendan Scott have teamed up to create a new Cavan History Podcast Series. The series, which will be hosted on the Acast podcast service, on Spotify, and also available to listen through www.cavancoco.ie/centenaries, will be inviting guests to discuss various aspects of history, both local and national, with its host, Dr Scott.
This initiative forms part of Cavan County Council’s Decade of Centenaries 2021 programme and is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 Initiative.
In the first episode, Brendan talks to Dr Jonathan Cherry, a native of Cloverhill who lectures in the School of History & Geography at DCU. An expert on the Farnham family, he and Brendan discuss Arthur Kenlis Maxwell, the 11th Lord Farnham, his life and his vehement opposition to partition.

Online webisodes to commemorate Decade of Centenaries
Cavan County Council’s Historian in Residence, Dr Brendan Scott will present a series of online ‘webisodes’ discussing historical incidents of note that occurred in Cavan 100 years ago as part of the ongoing Decade of Centenaries Commemorations.

Podcasts, exhibitions, school visits, and a published collection of historical essays are among the initiatives planned as Dr Scott charts this tumultuous period in Irish history.
Topics covered will include Lord Farnham and partition, the Workhouses and their fate following the foundation of the Free State, Major General Oliver Nugent and partition, unionism in Cavan, and IRA activity in West Cavan, Cavan prisoners in Ballykinlar Prison Camp, and more.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Sarah O'Reilly welcomed the programme of commemoration, "The Decade of Centenaries gives us a welcome opportunity to reflect on this seismic period of Irish history, and I am pleased that Cavan County Council has appointed a historian of the calibre of Dr Brendan Scott to help shape that discussion."

Cavan County Librarian Emma Clancy said "Dr Scott has compiled an excellent programme of events to commemorate the centenary of the events of 1921, and I would encourage everyone to engage with these webisodes, podcasts, exhibitions, and lectures, which give us all a better understanding of those events whose impact still reverberate through our society to this day."

Centenary Lecture Series - Autumn 2020
Cavan County Council and Cavan County Library Service showcased the inaugural Centenary Lecture Series in September/October 2020.
Speakers included Dr Sinéad McCoole, Dr Brian Hughes, Fr. Ultan McGoohan, Dr Darragh Gannon, John Dorney and Dr Mary McAuliffe.
