New ‘food cloud’ assists Cavan families

Five food hubs rolled out county-wide

Cavan County Local Development, Cavan Civil Defence, An Garda Síochána, St Bricin’s College, Belturbet and a number of local food businesses including Gerry Ellis and Sons Fresh Today, Cully’s Craft Bakery, Tesco Cavan, and Pat the Baker, have teamed up to establish a local food cloud, which assists households that have suffered job losses due to the current COVID-19 outbreak.

The initiative originated in St Bricin’s College, Belturbet, where students approached Principal Mary Sheridan with the idea of starting a collection for families in the area, and it is now being extended across all of County Cavan.

With the assistance of the national food cloud initiative, five hubs have been established across the county in Ballinagh, Belturbet, Ballyconnell, Kilnaleck and Bailieborough, with further hubs to be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Cavan Civil Defence and Cavan-Monaghan Garda Division will assist in the delivery of food to households that cannot travel due to self-isolation.
