Cavan Calling Grant Scheme Recipients Announced
Twenty-seven community and voluntary organisations across County Cavan have received grant aid to deliver events in support of the Cavan Calling homecoming festival this summer.
A total of €45,000 in funding has been allocated by the elected members of Cavan County Council towards cultural events taking place in and around the Cavan Calling festival, which takes place from 26 – 30 July this year.
Among the events supported are ‘A Cavan Convergence’, a cross-border traditional music event; a Positive Age cultural event; a Family Day at Tullacmongan Resource Centre; an Indian cultural event; and heritage events in Virginia.
Speaking following the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley, said “my fellow councillors and I were delighted to ring-fence discretionary funding towards this grant scheme back in 2020, and I am pleased to see such a diverse and exciting range of events supported under this scheme”.
“Cavan Calling celebrates the global Cavan family, but it is important that we also recognise the local, and through this grant scheme, Cavan County Council will ensure our grassroots community organisations are at the heart of this worldwide celebration.”
Tommy Ryan, Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, said, “It’s wonderful to see the level of interest from our community sector in taking part in Cavan Calling. The events supported under this scheme will greatly enhance what is already an exciting and engaging programme of events taking place from 26-30 July. I would like to acknowledge the support of our elected members and compliment them on their vision in making funds available for this scheme. I think it’s clear, looking at the quality of the successful applications, that this decision has been vindicated”.
Director of Service for Planning, Community, Enterprise and Tourism, Brendan Jennings said, “We are fortunate in County Cavan that we have an extremely engaged community sector, and the high standard of application for this grant scheme is evidence of that. The global Cavan family is a broad church and it’s particularly gratifying to see our new communities involved. I look forward to seeing these exciting projects come to life this summer as we celebrate all that makes this county special at Cavan Calling”.
