The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management at the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage today gave approval to Cavan County Council to accept the successful tender meaning the project can now proceed, with completion provisionally earmarked for late 2022, depending on the developing situation with regard to Covid-19
The state-of-the-art new two-bay fire station will include a drill tower, drill yard, parking areas, and will be located at Derrylurgan, Rassan Road, Ballyjamesduff. This latest positive development follows the opening of the brand-new Virginia Fire Station in 2019 and will complete the modernisation of County Cavan’s ten fire stations.
Welcoming the news, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor Sarah O’Reilly said “I am delighted that the dedicated firefighters in Ballyjamesduff will now get the top quality station that their skill and bravery warrants”.
“I wish to compliment Chief Fire Officer Noel O’Reilly and his team, and all those who have worked hard to bring this project to this stage. This new station is a facility that will benefit the people of Ballyjamesduff and its hinterland for many years to come.”
Chief Executive of Cavan County Council Tommy Ryan added “The provision of a new station in Ballyjamesduff is a key strategic action in our Corporate Plan, which delivers on our strategic goal of supporting and maintaining a well-trained Fire Service. We are very proud of the efforts of our firefighters to keep their communities safe, and I am delighted we are able to deliver on our commitment to provide the crew in Ballyjamesduff with a purpose-built new facility.”
Chief Fire Officer Noel O’Reilly hailed the support of the management and elected members of Cavan County Council in bringing the project this advanced stage: “A huge amount of work goes into bringing a project of this scale to fruition, and I applaud all those who have assisted the project so far and advocated for its success. Our local councillors and Oireachtas members in particular have been stalwart supporters of this new station from day one.”
“Station Officer John Lovett and his crew are hugely dedicated and highly trained firefighters and this new facility will assist them in delivering a high-quality emergency service to their community and to continue to develop their extensive skill set”, added CFO O’Reilly.
