Following on from previous statements issued by Cavan County Council in relation to the fire at the Erne Palais in Belturbet on the 24th September; Cavan County Council wish to advise that the Public Green area (Morrissey Park) and Playground will be open from 6pm this evening.

The immediate area around the building will remain cordoned off until the completion of the works.
The Property Owners have engaged a specialist contractor to carry out the cleanup operation and the removal and safe disposal of Asbestos off site.
This operation has commenced and will continue to clean up areas around the building including around private dwellings and removal of asbestos from the interior of the Erne Palais.
Cavan County Council engaged a specialist consultant to conduct air sampling and monitoring of the area on the 25th September. The results concluded that there were very low levels of airborne asbestos fibres detected in the immediate vicinity. The sampling report is available to view on Cavan County Council’s website at www.cavancoco.ie. Cavan County Council will continue to monitor the Air Quality during the cleanup operation.
Cavan County Council have issued a public information sheet which was prepared by the HSE to residents located close to the building and this sheet is available to view also on the Council’s website.
We will issue a further update on the situation at the earliest opportunity.
